Interactive guided tour
An experienced guide takes students on a journey through the museum — beyond the artwork and straight into their own world. Together we uncover deeper layers of meaning and reflect on our own perspectives (and prejudices) along the way. Expect active assignments and lively discussions. Looking at things differently is encouraged!

Workshop + shortened guided tour
At Abby, we like to look at the world — and at art — just a little differently. And that’s something young children are especially good at. With their vivid imagination and natural curiosity, they often notice what adults overlook.
During their visit, children first get creative in the Atelier, where they design their own artistic binoculars. Afterwards, they head into the exhibition with the guide for an interactive treasure hunt full of engaging challenges — becoming true art explorers.

Meemakers
Workshop + shortened guided tour
In most museums, you’re only allowed to look at art. Abby sees things differently. Visitors are more than spectators — so in this workshop, students step into the role of creators.
The class has one hour in the Atelier to build their own exhibition inspired by the current show. Afterwards, they explore the exhibition with a museum guide during a shortened interactive tour.

Independent Visit
Prefer to visit Abby independently with your class? Absolutely possible. We provide a creative tool that encourages students to look at art in new and surprising ways.

Before your visit
Good preparation makes the experience even more enjoyable! Here, you'll find all the necessary information to organize your visit optimally. Schools from West Flanders may receive an additional reimbursement for entry fees to Abby and other heritage sites in the region. Plus, with DynamoOpWeg, you can travel to Abby by bus for free.
Enter with your students through Abby’s main entrance in the Begijnhofpark. The adventure begins in the Living area while the class is checked in at the reception.
The guide will take you to the Atelier on the first floor, where jackets and school bags can be stored. Public lockers are not used by school groups.
We use the stairs, but a lift is available for visitors with reduced mobility. The entire building is wheelchair accessible, with an accessible toilet next to the Atelier. Public restrooms are located on level -1 in Abby Café.
The tour takes you through three exhibition halls (the Chapel and two underground museum halls). If a creative workshop is booked, it takes place in the Atelier after the tour.
Lunch: You may eat your packed lunch in the Begijnhofpark (weather permitting) or in the Atelier if the weather is bad. Eating and drinking in Abby Café is not allowed for school groups.
