The fictional empire of Monera extends to Abby, under the watchful eye of two poetic world leaders. An encounter between east and west, inner realm and outer realm.
Authorities offers a window into the minds of the artists: invited by Wit.h vzw, Honoré d'O and Gerard van Lankveld take on the role of 'Powers That Be.' They direct a mysterious and elusive realm, where gaining any foothold is far from obvious. Their domain stretches across everything that touches existence. At its edges, this realm grows and shifts without pause, taking on new forms of worldly and spiritual bliss.
Gerard van Lankveld (b. 1947, Gemert, NL) proclaims himself emperor of Monera. His empire consists of monuments and symbolic attributes. In reality or to scale, precious self-designed and self-made land, air and water vehicles are created, along with steam engines, timepieces, clocks and crowns, a triumphal arch, his own currency, his own flag, and scientific measuring instruments.
Honoré d'O (b. 1961, Oudenaarde, BE) focuses on the organic connection between seeing, understanding and inspiration. He moves the wall 'Grammatica' directly from his studio to the museum. On this wall, hundreds of small sculptures feature as punctuation marks, words and sentences of his universal visual language.
Abby & Friends
With Abby & Friends, Abby opens its doors each spring as an open house, inviting fellow art organisations to co-curate. In this first edition of Abby & Friends, from April 3 to September 13, 2026, Be-Part and Wit.h are our guests.
about Wit.h
Wit.h vzw stands side by side with artists they call Crip for activist reasons. Crip is the proud reclaimed name for all who deviate from ‘the normal’, ‘the appropriate’, ‘the recognisable’. You choose Crip, for example, because of a disability, a psychological vulnerability or for yet another reason entirely. Wit.h is committed to constantly questioning and reimagining the accessibility of the art world. They strive to populate this field colourfully with a diverse group of artists. Their goal is to create an inclusive space where every artist finds a place and is heard.
